Welcome
The Pothole Problems of Niagara Falls, NY.
Welcome to spring in Niagara Falls. Sadly along with spring comes pothole season and this year according to many residents it is the worst in memory. Here at the Accardo Agency we have been busy assisting clients in record numbers with filling out auto claims relating to damage they have sustained due to the city's numerous and significant potholes.
As you likely are aware driving into a pothole can do substantial and costly damage to your automobile and is truly a public safety issue as motorists often swerve to avoid hitting them. As one young woman found out, it cost her $1,000 for a gallon of milk. Yes a simple trip to the store could cost you big money in damages to your automobile if you hit a pothole and it wasn't previously reported to the city.
As a service to our clients and fellow taxpayers in our city we have launched NiagaraFallsPotholes.com. This website is a resource for news relating to the city's pothole problems and what is being done to correct them. It is also available to you to post your personal experiences with potholes within Niagara Falls and even add photos of potholes.
This is NOT AN OFFICIAL CITY SITE. Please feel free to leave what ever comments you would like. Tells us how you feel after you hit a pothole, not what you say!
Many people are now planning their drive through Niagara Falls such that they avoid the most heavily affected including the main roads. Unfortunately many believe a consequence of this practice is greatly increased traffic using neigborhood side-streets increasing wear and tear to those streets, increased noise to residents, and compromising the safety of our children. The information you leave here will hopefully help correct the many problems associated with potholes.
As reported in the Niagara Gazette, the city will receive $3.6 million from the Obama stimulus package. It is commonly believed that this amount of money won't come close to solving the pothole problem as most of the streets in the city need total reconstruction. Year after year the problem gets worse. We need our city leaders to look at this situation as a crisis, a public safety and quality-of-life issue, and not just a problem that the "POTHOLE KILLER" will solve.
What can you do to help?
It is not commonly known that if the City of Niagara Falls is put on notice of the existence of a pothole and a driver subsequently sustains damage as a result of the pothole having not been repaired in a reasonable length of time, the city may be liable to the motorist for damages. A claim cannot be successfully filed against the city in situations where the city was not formally notified of the existence of a specific pothole, which means you cannot collect any damages from the city if your car needs repairs after hitting a pothole that wasn't reported. To put the city on notice of the existence of a pothole you may call the city at 286-4940 or 286-4840 or preferably visit http://www.egovlink.com/niagarafalls/action.asp?actionid=3171 to submit an online report and get an email confirmation of your notification to the city.
Please leave your comments and opinions here at http://www.niagarafallspotholes.com/. You may email pictures of your favorite pothole(s) to admin@niagarafallspotholes.com. Make sure you include an address or location of the pothole. Although this is not an offfical city of Niagara falls website I'm confident that city leaders will visit.
Regards,
The Accardo Agency

This website is a terrific idea. There is no way that the elected "leaders" of our city could be unaware of our terrible pothole and road conditions in Niagara Falls. I just returned home from Iraq and the streets here are worse than in Baghdad. Incredible!!! It's time we hold those who control our tax dollars accountable for their inaction and irresponsibility. I've already visited the pothole complaint link and submitted a few potholes. I have many more to go.
I dread leaving home anymore no matter what street you drive down it looks like a war zone. I am a DeVeaux resident and the streets are a joke. Have you seen Lafayette st.? It's the worst street in the city. For what I pay in tax's to live here I should not have hundred's of dollars in car repairs every year due to pot holes. I think Mayor Dyster needs to start doing his job and fixing the problem instead of just saying "maybe we should try to avoid these streets". Is he joking? Does he not live in this city? HELLO there is no way to avoid them their everywhere. If that is the case maybe people should just avoid coming to NF all together.
potholes? what potholes?? i just figured that we'd had an air bombing attack similar to WWII bombings in England!!! I don't think you can drive down one street in all of Niagara Falls without hitting one!! LaSalle is a mess! As is the rest of the city. I'm afraid to bring my motorcycle out this year, how will I make it to Wheatfield without losing a tire.
So what's with the so called "pot hole killer" seriously? The thing makes a mess not to mention when you drive over it the pebbles fly up and hit your car causing paint damage. Stop trying to cover them up and fix them.
Enough is enough!!! I think the city officials like that our city looks like shit because nothing ever seems to get done and the pot holes are proof of that. I'd rather drive on dirt roads.
You need to realize you have it all wrong. There is in fact a standard test the city uses to determine if a street needs potholes repaired and it's a pretty simple test. Dyster drives down a street and if he can make it all the way without spilling his beer the street passes the test. Next street, next beer.
Dyster is a disgrace, the deplorable conditions of our roads should have been and still should be the potholes, but he is more interested in hiring out of towners for some very high paid DO NOTHING jobs at city hall. City council members should have done their jobs and insisted that the streets SHOULD HAVE BEEN PRIORITY NUMBER ONE, but they are self serving as well. Lets go over what our poor excuse of a mayor has done in 16 months in office. Hire out of towners with high paying do nothing jobs, neglect streets. Plant tulips, neglect streets, spend almost half a million placing artwork in a very dangerous traffic circle, neglect streets. We are dealing with a mayor that is so out of touch with real issues, that I hope we can survive the next 32 months of this totally inept, poor excuse of a mayor. Since you cannot see the mayor at city hall, he has a person to screen his visitors, you can probably find him in the Orchard Grill drinking. And this clown has dreams of becoming a congressman, please. He is a one time mayor that will never be a success at anything he does.
when i drive by st. joseph cementary i call it little iraq. they just started filling the poyholes on my street on the 2400 hundred block of weston avenue. i shouldn"t complain but what a joke they were doing it on mon>april 21 st. in the rain leaving big hucks of fill all over i give it less then a week and it will be all loosened out and up all over the side walks . I also wonder if were paying more for our insurance premiums because you have to watch for potholes when driving instead of other drivers and people walking.
